Tawau fire destroys 100 houses

TAWAU: A fire in Kampung Tanjung Batu Keramat Laut here today destroyed about 100 houses, according to the Tawau Fire and Rescue Service.

Its head, Rudy Fredzek, said there had been no report of casualties and that the cause of the fire and the damage had yet to be ascertained.

He said firemen were summoned at 6.20 pm and three trucks with 37 firemen were sent to the village.

Firemen had a difficult time putting out the blaze as the houses were too close to one another and a wind caused the fire to spread fast, he added.
