The news was announced by Rosewood Phnom Penh’s Managing Director Daniel Simon who described the recognition as a “great achievement” in a press conference on Wednesday.
According to a statement released by Travel + Leisure, the candidate for the award category includes hotels “from Singapore to Bangkok, Kyoto to Mumbai”, and they were rated based on four criteria namely rooms/facilities, location, service, food and value.
One voter described Rosewood Phnom Penh as “a beautiful hotel in the heart of the city, with stunning views, especially at nighttime. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the service was all-around excellent.”
Another described it as “One of the best hotels I’ve ever experienced”.
While Rosewood Phnom Penh is the only hotel on the magazine’s “Travel + Leisure Readers’ 15 Favourite City Hotels in Asia of 2023”, being at the top with a Reader Score of 98.63 means the Phnom Penh hotel has beaten many prestigious city hotels in the region, including the three branches of Capella hotel in Singapore, Hanoi and Bangkok as well as the Four Season Hotel in Japan’s Kyoto and Taj Lands End in India.
Simon said the award was not only meaningful for Rosewood but also for Cambodia and its hotel industry as a whole.
“The key factor that we receive this award is the passion and energy that my associates deliver,” he said. “It is quite easy to build fabulous hotels and restaurants, but it is the people with heart that deliver.”
“These luxury tourists have come to Cambodia, stayed at our hotel and voted for us. We have also been rated at Number 9 in the world, which set us apart among hotels in Cambodia.”
Simon also commented that the fact that Cambodia is rising as a tourist destination in the world also contributed to Rosewood Phnom Penh’s successes.
“The next thing on the agenda is that we will keep doing better,” he added. “What was good yesterday will not be good enough tomorrow. We need to stay on top of the game, and we need to provide good services, good products and good food.”
Since its opening in 2018, Rosewood Phnom Penh has raised the bar for dining, drinking, wellness and hospitality in Cambodia – and the efforts have garnered worldwide attention. In October last year, the hotel was honoured to be included among the “Top 10 Hotels in Southeast Asia” by Conde Nast Traveler’s 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards for the fourth consecutive year.
In a nod to the hotel’s strength as a culinary destination, Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia crowned steakhouse Cuts, located on the 38th floor of the Rosewood Phnom Penh, “Cambodia’s Best Restaurant”. The elegant steak and seafood grill also earned a coveted spot on this year’s “50 Best Discovery” list by World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
