SIEM REAP, 12 February 2016: Cambodia Airports says a Hong Kong-based company, Plaza Premium Group, will open a second lounge at Siem Reap airport by the end of next month.
The group opened its first lounge at Phnom Penh International Airport last month.
Phnom Penh Post quoted Cambodia Airports’ communications and PR director, Khek Norinda, saying they have transferred the management of airport lounges to Plaza Premium Lounge to improve services. The company has a membership programme for frequent travellers in Asia so they can use lounges at various Asian airports outside of the airline managed lounges.
Some travellers believe it is more cost-effective to travel economy class, but pay for lounge service at airports from a third-party supplier.
The Plaza Premium Lounge in Siem Reap airport will open end of March.
The new lounge is part of an expansion that will double the floor surface of the terminal’s commercial area. Additional outlets are included including brand shops.
Plaza Premium Group corporate communications senior manager, Edward Cheng, confirmed Siem Reap would be open to all passengers who pay an entrance fee, but talks are underway to gain outsource lounge service contracts with Vietnam Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Dragonair, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines. The company also collaborates with a variety of banks, travel agents and hospitality companies.
Plaza Premium Group has lounges in 130 locations including 35 international airports worldwide.
Cambodia Airports manages three international airports; Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.
Last year, more than 3.2 million passengers used Siem Reap’s airport up 9.0% year-on-year. China was the major source of passengers.
