Say Samal, Minister of Environment, on Sunday led a delegation from the Ministry of Environment and representatives of construction companies to inspect the newly completed infrastructure and eco-tourism facilities at Sre Ampil Waterfall Community in Kampong Chhnang province and Chrak Laeang Waterfall Community in Pursat province in the Oral Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary.

The construction of the new eco-tourism infrastructures offers an improvement to the livelihood of local communities. The project realises the policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia to “develop connected tourism”.

Both sites offer a unique experience for people to enjoy responsible and sustainable tourism destinations. The eco-tourism sites are complete, and feature food stalls, public toilets, tents, landscaping and boardwalks with beautiful stairs along with parking lots for motorcycles and cars.

The sites are designed to attract more national and international visitors to visit and enjoy nature and to help improve the livelihood of the community. One major aim of the project is to reduce dependence of local people on non-timber forest products and illegal hunting in protected areas.

The organization of infrastructure for ecotourism is an important mechanism to help protect and conserve natural resources, as well as to improve the livelihoods of local residents, who can now enjoy an opportunity to participate in the management and effective use of natural resources. AKP
