Japanese company TreeFul plans to invest in a ‘luxury tree house’ hotel to break new records on Kulen Mountain after breaking the Guinness World Records Okinawa in early August 2022.

TreeFul Representative Nabesshima Katsuhito recently said that in early 2023, Satoru Kikugawa, a world-renowned engineer and founder of TreeFul, a company that builds luxury tree houses on the island of Okinawa, visited some parts of Cambodia, he was interested in building a luxury tree house on the historical mountain of Siem Reap.

This project “will bring a lot of benefits to Cambodia in terms of economy, environment, and poverty reduction for the people in the area. Because of the tree house, it will become a new package of tourism products in Cambodia, in particular a tool to help attract quality tourists to visit and extend their stay.”

In addition, the company has sent experts in the fields of agriculture, environment, and technical fields to assess the potential and impact in the area and lead to the preparation of a master plan for the relevant ministries to apply for a permit for investment. Phnom Kulen has big trees, water, and wildlife and is close to the ancient capital, so it fits the idea of building this tree house.

Katsuhito said the house will be designed with luxury and environmentally friendly concepts in mind. He noted that he comes from Japan, which is itself an eco-conscious country, and that the project is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He emphasized that the project could potentially bring more investment to Cambodia from Japan.

According to the Siem Reap Provincial Information Department, the TreeFul development project is an innovation that integrates the environment and biodiversity and does not destroy trees but protects them from deforestation.
