Cambodia has been appreciated by countries for its role as the host of the 32nd SEA Games.
It was viewed that Cambodia is a small country with a huge heart, as it offers free entry for all spectators, free accommodation and food for sports delegates, and free broadcasting rights for media partners.
This reaffirms the Kingdom’s commitment to hosting the sports to further boost regional unity and friendship.
H.E. Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security of Singapore, congratulated Cambodia for the successful and amazing organisation of the 32nd SEA Games, and thanked the government for the warm hospitality to athletes of Southeast Asian region, including those from Singapore.
H.E. Mrs. Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan, Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, said the organisation of the SEA Games 2023 hosted by Cambodia is stunning, adding that Cambodia did it very well.
Vietnamese Prime Minister H.E. Pham Minh Chinh also lauded Cambodia’s hosting of the games, especially for the opening ceremony.
The official opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games took place on May 5 under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, and was also attended by international guests such as Lao President H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice-President Mr. Ng Ser Miang and Singapore National Olympic Council President Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin.
The ceremony took place at Morodok Techo National Stadium with over 70,000 spectators with impressive presentation.
Some 1,000 artists, 2,000 athletes, 5,000 law enforcement officials, 3,000 medical staff, and 5,000 volunteers support the organisation of the games.
Cambodia is hosting the 32nd SEA Games from May 5 to 17 under the motto “Sport: Live in Peace”. The regional athletes are set to compete in 37 sports with 581 events – 304 for men, 229 for women and 48 mixed.
The SEA Games 2023 is welcoming over 12,400 athletes, coaches, and staff from participating ten ASEAN member countries and Timor-Leste.
