Cambodia currently has between 400 and 600 Asian elephants, most of which live in the Cardamom Mountains, the northern plateau of the Tonle Sap and the eastern highlands of Mondulkiri and Ratanakkiri, which are rich in biodiversity and the slope is conducive to the life of elephants and other wildlife.
Through an automatic camera in a protected area in the northeastern village of Cambodia, images captured of the herd show small baby elephants, which show the reproduction and breeding of small wild elephants that will sustain the presence of wild elephants in protected areas.
The Asian elephant is considered an important fauna because of its cultural significance, role in ecosystems, and the potential to protect other species in its habitat. The species is listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
