SIEM REAP, 17 November 2016: Cambodia Angkor Air will launch flights between Siem Reap and Beijing, China, effective 16 December.
According to the airline’s management, the three weekly flights will use a 180-seat Airbus A320 linking Siem Reap to China’s capital city.
The airline already flies to Guangzhou and Shanghai.
According to the management, the new flight is a response to rapid growth in Chinese tourists to Cambodia.
The boom in Chinese visitors has created considerable stress for the country’s tourism industry as it lacks skilled Chinese speaking guides, which has resulted in the illegal use of Chinese nationals to guide tours. Flights deliver the tour groups, but services on the ground are not keeping pace with the growth.
For the first nine months of this year, 577,283 Chinese tourists visited Cambodia up 12.5% from 513,021 visits during the same period last year, according to Statistics and Tourist Information Department figure.
