Phnom Penh, April 17th, 2023 —

The Angkor Sankranta 2023, along with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the annual event, began this morning in Siem Reap province under the theme “Dreams and Hopes.”

The events took place at the northern compound of Bayon Temple under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen.

Senior government officials, foreign ambassadors accredited to Cambodia, national and international guests and youths also took part in the events.

The Premier expressed his delight to once again join the Angkor Sankranta event. “It is a gathering between humans and tangible and intangible cultural heritage,” he underlined.

Angkor Sankranta 2023, organised by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) since 2013 on the occasion of the Khmer Traditional New Year, will highlight amazing spectacles and fun programmes reflecting Khmer culture and traditional games.

The stunning spectacles include “My Village”, “This Is Not a Dream”, “Mony Harotey Park”, and “SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games 2023 Village”, and so on.

“My Village” will showcase seven giant objects – Chapei Dang Veng (long-necked guitar), Prahok (Khmer fermented fish) basket, palm leaf hat, eggs and nest, Hanuman mask, Angrut (fish trap), and palm juice containers.

Besides Angkor Sankranta in Siem Reap, there are Sankranta events across the country even at the village and commune levels.
